Looking for a Double alternative? Here is why firms switch.

Double, formerly Keeper, charges per client, and per-client pricing is the complaint its own reviewers raise most. Equility charges $15 per QuickBooks company per month, published on the pricing page, with no per-seat charge, no volume tiers and no demo in front of the number.

This page lays out both pricing models with the arithmetic, a scope comparison that marks the rows Double wins, and the cases where staying on Double is the right call.

No credit card required. The trial covers one QuickBooks company. QuickBooks Online only.

The short version

Equility is not automatically the cheaper tool. At the per-client rate Double's reviewers report, a 25-client firm pays less there than 25 QuickBooks companies cost here. We would rather you read that off the table below than find it out after signing.

What differs is the model and the transparency. One published number per QuickBooks company, the same at 5 companies or 500, with no tier to negotiate and no quote to request. Firms switch when their Double bill has climbed into the upper half of its tier range, or when reconciliation is the only part of the job they actually need.

Per client vs per QuickBooks company

Both tools price per book, not per seat. The difference is what the per-book number does as the list grows, and whether you can read it without asking.

Monthly cost at 10, 25 and 50 books: Double's reported per-client rate against Equility's published per-company price
Firm size Double Reported $8 – $10 per client Equility $15 per QuickBooks company
10 QuickBooks companies $80 – $100 / mo $150 / mo
25 QuickBooks companies $200 – $250 / mo $375 / mo
50 QuickBooks companies $400 – $500 / mo $750 / mo

Where Double's number is lower

At the $8 to $10 per client its reviewers report, Double is the cheaper line item at every size in that table. If your firm is quoted at that rate and your bill matches it, the arithmetic is on Double's side and we would be lying to tell you otherwise.

Where ours is

Reviewers describe a 3-person firm with 50 clients paying between $500 and $2,500 a month depending on the tier they land in. Fifty QuickBooks companies here is $750, and it is $750 whether you are a 3-person firm or a 30-person one, because nothing in the price counts staff.

Double figures are the ranges its own reviewers and public pricing page describe, gathered October 24, 2026, not a quote given to us. Pricing and packaging move, so confirm current terms with Double before deciding. Equility's $15 per QuickBooks company per month is published on our pricing page.

What Double does well

Three things Double has that Equility does not, stated plainly, because a comparison page that only lists the other tool's faults is not worth reading.

Two-way ledger sync

Not just bank-to-QuickBooks. Category changes sync back to the general ledger, so a recode in Double lands in the books.

Unlimited users

Double's pricing is per client, not per seat, so putting the whole team on the same books does not change the bill.

Intuit Platinum Partner

A formal partner tier with Intuit, which comes with closer integration support than a standard app listing.

Why firms look for an alternative

Two complaints recur in Double's own reviews. The first is the pricing model as the client list grows: one reviewer calls it "the per-client pricing model becomes expensive as you scale", another "pricing increases significantly with more clients". The second is Xero-side re-authentication, where firms serving Xero clients alongside QuickBooks report reconnecting those feeds more often than they would like.

Neither is a reason to switch on its own. They are the two things worth checking against your own invoice and your own client mix before you renew.

Equility vs Double: what each one covers

Double is a reconciliation tool with ledger sync across two accounting platforms. Equility reconciles QuickBooks Online. The rows where Double wins are marked as clearly as the rows where Equility does, and there is no speed or accuracy row, because neither of us has a measured number worth putting in a table.

Scope comparison between Equility and Double
Dimension Equility QuickBooks Online reconciliation Double Reconciliation plus ledger sync
General ledger support QuickBooks Online only Advantage Double. QuickBooks Online and Xero. Reviewers report having to re-authenticate the Xero side more often than they would like

Bank data Advantage Equility. Plaid live feeds across 12,000+ institutions, plus PDF statement parsing Not detailed in the sources behind this page

Stay on Double if

  • You need two-way ledger sync. Equility reconciles against QuickBooks Online and leaves the ledger as the source of truth; it does not push category changes back.
  • You run client books on Xero. Equility is QuickBooks Online only, and that is a hard blocker.
  • Unlimited users is part of why you bought it, and your whole team works in the same client files.
  • At the per-client rate Double's reviewers report, your client count puts you below what the same number of companies costs here. Run the arithmetic for your own list.

Look at Equility if

  • You want the price before the conversation. Ours is on the pricing page, and there is no demo gate in front of it.
  • Your bill has crept into the upper half of Double's tier range and you want a number that does not move with the tier.
  • Reconciliation and month-end close are the actual bottleneck, not ledger sync or practice management.
  • Your books live in QuickBooks Online and you want live Plaid feeds rather than statement uploads.
  • You want to try it before signing. 14 days free, no card, and the trial covers one QuickBooks company.

Switching without gambling on it

Do not take anyone's match-rate claim on faith, ours included. Run one company in parallel and read the numbers off your own books.

1

Start with one client company

The free trial covers one QuickBooks company. Connect it, reconcile a full period, and see how the matching behaves on books you already know.

2

Run that company in parallel

Close the same month in both tools. Compare the exceptions you had to touch by hand. That read is on your own ledger, which beats anyone's marketing number, ours included.

3

Price your real client list

Multiply your QuickBooks company count by $15 and compare it against your current Double invoice, not against the list price. Discounts and tiers mean the invoice is the only number that matters.

4

Add the rest, then cancel when you are ready

Each company is its own subscription, so you can add them as you migrate and drop them as clients come and go. Nothing here needs an annual commitment.

Double alternatives: common questions

What is Double?

Double is a reconciliation and close tool for accounting firms, formerly called Keeper. It connects to QuickBooks Online and Xero, syncs category changes back to the general ledger, charges per client rather than per seat, and is an Intuit Platinum Partner. Firms use it for the same job Equility does, which is why the two come up against each other.

Is Equility cheaper than Double?

Not at the per-client rate Double's own reviewers report. At roughly $8 to $10 per client per month, 25 clients on Double is around $200 to $250, where 25 QuickBooks companies on Equility is $375. Where the comparison turns is the top of Double's tier range: reviewers describe a 3-person firm with 50 clients paying anywhere from $500 to $2,500 per month, and 50 companies on Equility is $750. Price your own client list against your actual invoice rather than either list price.

How does Equility's pricing model work?

It is $15 per QuickBooks company per month. A firm with 11 companies pays $165. There are no per-seat charges, no volume tiers, and the per-company price is the same whether you connect 5 companies or 500. The number is on the pricing page, so you do not need a demo to find out what it costs.

Why do firms look for a Double alternative?

The pattern across Double's own reviews is per-client pricing that climbs with the client list. One reviewer puts it as "the per-client pricing model becomes expensive as you scale", another as "pricing increases significantly with more clients". The second recurring complaint is Xero-side re-authentication: firms serving Xero clients alongside QuickBooks report reconnecting those feeds more often than they would like.

Does Equility support Xero?

Not today. Equility integrates with QuickBooks Online, and connects to bank data through Plaid plus Shopify and Amazon for ecommerce activity. If your client books live in Xero, Double covers that and Equility does not.

Is Equility a drop-in replacement for Double?

For the reconciliation half, yes: matching, exceptions, scheduled runs, and bulk GL reclassification on QuickBooks Online. For two-way ledger sync, no. Equility reads from QuickBooks Online and writes reconciliations back; it does not push category changes into the ledger the way Double's sync does. If that sync is why you bought Double, Equility covers part of the job.

What does the free trial include?

14 days, no credit card required, covering one QuickBooks company. That is enough to reconcile a full period on a client you already know and judge the matching on your own books rather than on a demo file.

Your Next Close Is Already Counting Down

Every hour your team spends on manual reconciliations is an hour they're not doing higher-value work. Equility handles the matching, the checks, and the errors — so your close takes hours, not days.
